RUG DESCRIPTION

This unique piece is called a Hanbel in Morocco. In other parts of the world this type of flatweave rugs are known as kelims.

This style is thought to originate from the area in and around Tazenakht, an area rich with a weaving history. While the majority of this weave is flat, the design accents are either embroidered or have a slightly higher pile, giving these pieces texture and dimension. Every design element comes entirely from the artisan’s imagination.

  • unique traditional rug: only one in the world
  • flat woven by Female Artisans in Morocco
  • 100% natural dyed with alfalfa, madder and saffron flower
  • outstanding quality and hand weaving details, made to last a lifetime

Please let us know via hello@romaisasrugs.com and we will get back to you within 24 hours. The artisans can make something similar, but never the same. Each rug tells a personal life story. It is an expression of the imagination of the woman making the carpet.

  • Wool shrinks! While we do our best, final sizes can vary by 2-10 cm/1-4" depending also on the size of the rug.
  • Tassels add about 10cm to your rug.
  • Please note continuous sun exposure will cause fading as seen on vintage rugs.
  • Estimated ship date 6-12 weeks after order is processed
  • Custom rug orders are final sale

RUG STORY

This rug is made in Southern Morocco. Southern Morocco is known for the best quality flatweave and low pile rugs you can find in Morocco.

These skilled artisans draw their inspiration from their profound desire of intimate self and materialize these thoughts in abstract symbolic form.

The composition of their rugs is often dedicated to birth or fertility and the sequence of their motifs usually indicates the course of an event. The rug may appear as a mirror of femininity and describe the phases in the life of a woman.

It’s common to see expression of strong emotional turning points such as virginity, union, pregnancy and childbirth.

In recent years you'll also find modern and playful abstract designs.

FAQ

How do I take care of my rug?

We recommend unpacking the rug once it’s delivered. This will help minimize any creases or marks from the rug being rolled up. The rug will need to settle for a few days before any crease is removed from the shipping process.

Washing and spot cleaning

To extend the life of your rug, have it professionally washed once a year. In Morocco, the families shake the rugs outside weekly to clean them. This is the traditional and easy way you can replicate in your own home.

If you ever need to spot clean your rug, do so as soon as possible with lukewarm water and a little natural soap. If the stains are stubborn, we recommend using professional cleaning service.

Vacuum cleaning

Romaisas rugs are made from 100% natural wool fibers, this means, they will shed. Regular vacuuming of your rug at home in the first couple of weeks will help reduce shedding and eliminate it completely over time. Vacuum your rug in a side-topside motion to protect its fibers.

Feel free to flip the rug and vacuum the reverse side to get anything that is deep in the piles as well.

Rotating your rug

In our homes, sunlight can effect the coloring on fabrics and furniture, including rugs. We recommend you to rotate your rug every 3 months to help maintain an even shade.

Is it possible to meet the women who made my rug?

If you want to visit the beautiful country of Morocco. Please do let us know at hello@romaisas.com. We work together with a Moroccan tour operator that can arrange the best trip for you while also having the chance to meet the Artisans.

Will my rug be exactly as shown in the pictures?

Moroccan rugs are in general more beautiful than shown on a monitor/display.

However two rugs can never be the exact same. Natural wool has an intriguing way to dance in with the sun light and mesmerize you every time. It's a beauty that can't be captured.

Also keep in mind that each phone/computer has different screen settings so the colors are likely to look not the exact same.

Each rug is made entirely by hand so there will always be variations in pattern and color, but we strive to accurately capture the detail and color so you know what you are getting.

How much does shipping costs?

Shipping heavy and big packages in general is costly. Some of our rugs weigh over 28 kg. Within the European Union shipping is included in our prices. So within the EU insured shipping is on us. For shipping outside the EU, shipping costs are calculated at check out.

Buyers are responsible for customs and duties that may apply for those customers who reside outside the European Union or the United States.
